Are you fully insured and qualified decorators?
Yes — we are fully insured with £5 million public liability cover, and all decorators are experienced and qualified.
How long have you been in business?
AA Decorators has been established since 1985, and has been run under current management for the past eight years.
Do you offer free quotes or consultations?
Yes — we provide free quotations and also offer a virtual estimate service. Simply provide the room’s length, width, and height along with a brief description of the work, and we’ll prepare an accurate estimate or arrange a property visit if required.
Can I get an estimate over the phone, or do you need to visit the property?
We can arrange a site visit or virtual estimate depending on the project.
What’s your typical lead time for new projects?
We are usually booked around six weeks in advance.
Do you supply all the paint and materials, or can I provide my own?
We prefer to supply our own materials to ensure quality and consistency of finish
What paint brands do you use and recommend?
We use and recommend Dulux Heritage, Crown, Johnstone’s, and Benjamin Moore paints.
Do you guarantee your workmanship?
We do not currently offer a formal guarantee, but we are exploring options that meet our quality standards and customer expectations.
Are your decorators directly employed or subcontracted?
All our decorators are directly employed, ensuring consistent quality and reliability.
How do I know my request or message was delivered?

What type of decorating work do you do?
We handle interior and exterior decorating, including domestic maintenance, heritage house restoration, period property work, and log cabins.
Do you offer both interior and exterior painting?
Yes — we specialise in both interior and exterior painting.
Can you help with wallpaper removal and hanging?
Yes — we provide a full wallpaper removal and hanging service.
Do you provide plastering, skimming, or surface preparation?
We don’t carry out full skim coats, but we take great pride in thorough surface preparation, as it’s key to achieving a flawless finish
Can you match existing colours or finishes?
Yes — we use the Nix Colour Matcher to accurately match colours during our site visit.
Do you offer commercial decorating for offices, shops, or landlords?
Yes — we undertake commercial decorating projects of all sizes.
Do you do small touch-up jobs or only full redecorations?
We generally recommend repainting the full wall rather than isolated touch-ups, as this ensures an even finish.
Can you work out of hours or weekends for businesses?
Yes — we can arrange out-of-hours and weekend work where required.
Preparation and Quality
How do you prepare surfaces before painting?
Both of our teams use Mirka dustless extraction units for clean and professional surface preparation.
Do you protect furniture, flooring, and fixtures during the work?
Yes — we take pride in our clean, careful approach, using dust sheets throughout and Q1 floor protection for hard flooring.
How do you deal with damp, mould, or damaged walls?
We scrape away any bubbling plaster or paint, apply a fungicidal wash, then stain-block using Zinsser BIN Aqua. In severe cases, we use Crown Clean Extreme mould-inhibiting paint for lasting protection.
What finishes do you offer?
We offer a wide range of finishes including matt, eggshell, satin, and gloss.
How long will the paintwork last?
- High-traffic areas: 3–5 years
- Low-use rooms: up to 10 years
- Exterior paintwork: around 5–7 years
Do you clean up after the job is completed?
Absolutely — we fully clean the work area and vacuum once all dust sheets are removed.
Quotes and Pricing
How do you price your work — per hour, per room, or per project?
Not at present — VAT will be added in future once applicable.
Is VAT included in your quote?
Yes — we take pride in our clean, careful approach, using dust sheets throughout and Q1 floor protection for hard flooring.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash and bank transfer.
Do you require a deposit before starting work?
Yes — we take a 20 percent deposit to secure your booking
Are there any additional costs I should be aware of?
No — prices only change if the specification or job details change after quoting
What if I need to make changes after accepting the quote?
That’s completely fine — we’re flexible and understanding of clients’ changing needs.
Project Management
How long will my decorating project take?
Project length depends entirely on the size and complexity of the job.
Can you work around other trades on site?
Yes — we’re happy to coordinate with other trades to keep your project running smoothly.
What happens if the weather affects exterior work?
Exterior projects are rescheduled as soon as possible to the next available dry period.
How do you keep projects on schedule?
We start with a clear plan, detailed preparation, and regular communication throughout the job.
Who will be my main point of contact during the project?
Your main contact will be the tradesperson on site, ensuring clear, direct communication.
Aftercare and Maintenance
Do you offer aftercare advice for keeping walls and woodwork looking fresh?
Yes — we recommend hard-wearing paints such as Dulux Heritage, Armstead, Crown Clean Extreme for walls, and Dulux Diamond or Johnstone’s Aqua Guard for woodwork.
What should I do if I notice an issue after the job is completed?
Simply call us and we’ll arrange to resolve it promptly — we take after-sales support seriously.
Can you return for touch-ups or maintenance in future?
We’re currently exploring maintenance package options for returning clients.
